“Rainy Day”

The recent rains in Las Vegas make me reminisce about past summer rainy days.

Living in the desert I appreciate rainy days more than others.  Raindrops pour down a new perspective on the city.  Nighttime clouds reflect Las Vegas and you can trace the city from the green illumination on clouds over MGM Grande over to the bright light shining from the Luxor looking as though heaven were shining the light down rather than the reverse.  From the Spilsbury home, just miles from the Strip, the transformation engulfs us in a peaceful warmth indoors.  Outside the kids explore the grounds and experience a new aspect to their backyard oasis.  We know this feeling will only last a day before the bright Nevada sun brings back the dry Sierra warmth.

Wordless Wednesday: Jasmine’s Art

Am I the only person who knows who Bob Ross is?

Perhaps this will jog your memory: think of “happy clouds“.  I would watch the late Bob Ross on PBS as a kid wanting so much to paint with him.

In an effort to keep the kids busy this summer while escaping the heat, we opted for some creative time with a local Bob Ross painting class for kids.

They created magnificent masterpieces that surprised even them, and that we later framed for home art and gifts for grandparents.

But, the most interesting art of all came when our cat, Jasmine, decided to lend her own creative contribution to our drying artwork.

Wordless Wednesday- Simple Fun

In this age of high-tech entertainment I’m constantly reminded that it’s the simple things that create the most joy for me.  While my daughter is begging for more time on PixieHollow.com, I realize that I “lived” in my roller skates at her age and played “war” with the boys down the street.  Is simple better?
